Board, Policies, Community, Course

We’re developing new policies and procedures while making progress to expand our board.

31 March 2022

Here’s a summary of updates for Street Epistemology International:

Board Interviews

After putting out a public call as well as contacting a few people we thought might be a good fit, we have started to interview several new potential Board member candidates interested in joining Street Epistemology International. Expanding the SEI Board is exciting as we’re very much in need of more people with diverse skills to help make all of our projects a reality.

Policies and Procedures

As our organization grows we’re recognizing the need to develop policies like a code of conduct for our Board members and volunteers who represent SEI. We’re also drafting procedures to help ensure that the specific tasks we conduct are clearly laid out. Most of these will eventually be made public for transparency, so watch for those on our website.

Community

As our SE communities diversify we’re finding the need to more clearly express SEI’s relationship with fan-managed in-person or online SE community groups, and plan to hold a couple of working sessions with representatives from each of these in the coming weeks. If you manage one of these SE communities or know someone who does, please reach out to [email protected] so that we can verify and include them in our meeting preparations. Collaboratively clarifying the relationship between our groups and perhaps developing clearer guidelines could help make managing these communities a bit easier for those involved and result in a more positive experience for those who join them.

Self-Directed Course

We now have more than a dozen volunteers working very hard to develop materials that will likely serve to become the foundation for all sorts of other training resources to spring from it. We’re very close to releasing Module 1: What is Street Epistemology? to the public for volunteer review, feedback via survey, and focus group testing. This module in particular is very important, as it also contains what we think might be the clearest definition of the term ‘street epistemology’ to date, and we want to ensure its broader adoption into the SE community and beyond. So if you’re particularly passionate about SE, then this is the module to sign up for to test: https://streetepistemology.com/learning-course

More generally, we’ve funded the purchase of more equipment for a few people who help promote SE, seen a renewed interest from people wishing to formally study SE, and have started to receive international speaking opportunities from groups outside of traditional channels. It’s never been a better time to support our efforts by making a donation to SEI.
