2021 Year in Review

2021 Year in Review

Our three main projects are sharply in focus: develop a self-directed course to teach Street Epistemology concepts, update the SE website so that it can facilitate the delivery of training materials, and catch the attention of people willing and able to objectively study this approach.

8 December 2021

It’s been a great year for Street Epistemology International. We’re regularly receiving speaking and workshop requests, fielding inquiries of general interest, and seeing SE community growth across multiple platforms. We even started reaching out to experts in various disciplines to help us build this organization into something more effective and transparent.

Please first help me welcome Roman Tarasov, who recently joined the Board of Directors for SEI. Rom is not only exceptional at conducting, teaching, and understanding SE, he is involved with and works extremely hard on several major SE-related projects. Rom lives in Moscow, Russia and brings a crucial international perspective to our operation.

The self-directed course me and others have been working on since October 2020 is really coming along. The first seven modules are shaping up to be quite important and I think will resolve a lot of ambiguity that we regularly see in SE communities. Here’s a short list of those modules and their current states of completion:

  • Module 1, What is Street Epistemology? (currently in subject matter expert review)
  • Module 2, Why Use Street Epistemology? (ready for subject matter expert review)
  • Module 3, Street Epistemology Overview (ready for public review)
  • Module 4, Preparing to Do Street Epistemology (developing learning objectives with subject matter experts)
  • Module 5, Having the Right Attitude (ready for subject matter expert review)
  • Module 6, Ethical Considerations (developing learning objectives with subject matter experts)
  • Module 7, Building and Maintaining Rapport (preparing for lead editor review)

We’d love to crank these out faster but our team is small and maxed out. We’ll be holding a fundraiser to cover expenses around the SE course in the coming weeks, so watch for that. These seven modules comprise ⅓ of the overall self-directed course arc, which will serve as the foundation for the development of several other resources and products.

The SE website in its current form is inadequate for providing a place for learners to engage with our training materials. As a result, we’ve formed a small team that has identified our requirements and begun the process to locate a company who can build a new website that can handle our vision. I’m grateful for all the people who volunteered to help us build something, but we decided to outsource this task. We’ll be holding a fundraiser to cover expenses around the SE website in the coming weeks, so watch for that.

We’ve started to tap our growing list of contacts in the “technique rebuttal” space to see if we can find someone willing and able to scientifically test SE. I’m optimistic that, as SE becomes more noticed in mainstream circles in the coming months, we’ll see some traction here. We’ll be holding a fundraiser to cover expenses around SE testing in the coming weeks, so watch for that.

We’re still in need of someone with expertise to help us launch and manage productive fundraising campaigns in the near future. We’re also in need of trustworthy and hard-working individuals with time to consider joining key positions on our board. If you’ve been on the SE sidelines for a while and have been looking for ways to help, this could be it. We’ve also started to investigate the idea of creating an Advisory Board with experts in various disciplines to help keep us on track. If any of this sounds interesting to you, please find me on social media or send an email to contact@streetepistemologyinternational.org and introduce yourself.

On a personal note, things are going great. My interviews with Mormon Stories podcast are dropping, my kids will be home for the holidays, and I’ve been re-elected by the SEI board for another term.

I’m incredibly excited to see what happens with SE in 2022.

Best regards,

Anthony Magnabosco
